Just seen her on the telly saying it's "a lazy asumption that the equestrian is for only rich people". She said they are from such a diverse background but said nothing to substantiate it. Stupid rich cow. These are the elitist of the elite, royals, top public school folk. How many black kids from the inner cities will look to those jolly hockey sticks mob as role models opposed to Mo Farah. The class structure in this country is still as prevalent as ever

The girl that won the dressage went to a comprehensive school, left at 16 then worked as a stable hand for 4 years. May be an exception at the moment or may prove that if you take off your prejudiced head, have talent and are prepared to work at it you too can win a gold medal.

Sorry I can't take off my prejudiced head as it is so clearly an elitist sport. The girl from the comp is an utter exception, but as a sport that only has 30,000 involved in this country I would hazard that 99.99% of those are from a very privileged background.

Less than 1 person in every 2000 in this country involved in equestrian, yet no sign of squash as an Olympic sport. That says it all.

As you are a chap, absolutely no chance of squeezing her out of her dressage, either.

Unfortunately some have a chip on their shoulder about these things I think what has been well documented, especially by that journalist on the BBC who has been on about Olympic funding, is the problem with the Olympics as it is is there are too many sports which are just tiny minority sports, whilst other sports which have a massive apeal are overlooked. Why isn't darts included? It is to archery what table tennis is to tennis. We don't have squash, but we do have badminton. Why? As for the class thing, there is no doubt that certain sports are for the moneyed. As with everything in life, where there is a will there is a way, but let's be honest winning a gold in a minority sport is hardly the equal of what the likes of Mo Farah has achieved. Whilst laudable, let's be honest one gold medal isn't really worth the same as another. There was never any chance of Zara Phillips doing the discus

BAWS would've handed a 24-hourer for making light of violence against women here.
No joke.

BAWS would've handed a 24-hourer for making light of violence against women here. No joke. Clare Balding is a woman in the loosest terms lacking feminine grace of any kind. However, I wish to point out despite my obvious contempt for her I would not wish any harm on her.

Oddly enough she's been roundly praised by all quarters and has even earned herself a promotion of sorts via her London 2012 coverage.
I see your point though. She knows her sport well enough but not a lot besides (licking muff notwithstanding).

Clare Balding is a great broadcaster, and knowledgeable about loads of stuff.
She has just landed a presenting role on C4 racing, after those cunts at the BBC abandoned the sport.
And well deserved the role is, too.

She knows a huge amount about all the different Oss related sports but she also comes across as knowledgable about other sports like Rugby League which she presented on BBC for the Challenge Cup ties. I quite liked her... She is light years ahead of the likes of Lineker, Alan Green, Lawro, Mike Costello, Jonathan Ledgard, Gordon Farquar, Chappers and last (and very probably least) Gary bloody Richardson; all hoping to cover their elementary errors and lack of any depth of knowledge with strident volume. Except for Richardson, who prefers repetition and tedium. The Beeb is currently basking in a warm glow of congratulation over its Olympic coverage. I thought the standard was generally pretty abysmal, with a few welcome exceptions - Clare Balding being one, Michael Johnson another.

Michael Johnson was superb throughout. Balding seemed good too - and her general enthusiasm was a treat when compared to that tit Lawro.

Well, this thread has done a complete volte-face. I'm in the pro camp too. Think she's one of the best sports presenters we've had in a very long time.

Michael Johnson has a voice which is a cross between Morgan Freeman and Chuck D. It doesn't get better than that. I told him on the Twatter but he didn't respond.

Balding was the shining light for the BBC during the Olympics. Apart from when she dissed Adlington's bronze and was swiftly hauled back into line by her producers, I agree.
