Like most of you, I knew Rich a little and was shocked and deeply saddened to hear the news of his untimely death yesterday.
I don't know if the club are planning to run the Baggie barge this season, and if I'm honest I don't know how actively involved Rich was with the scheme after the club took it on, but it seems to me that organising some sort of charity barge run to one of our home games would be a fitting tribute to his memory. Maybe the club could be persuaded to run the scheme free of charge for just one week, so that all proceeds from the ticket sales could be donated to an appropriate cancer charity.
It would also give those that knew him and appreciated his efforts to do something worthwhile for our club the opportunity to raise a Bathams, or indeed a cuppa, in his memory.
The season opener is a late kick-off and somebody mentioned that the Ipswich game was also set to be switched to the Saturday tea-time (I'll stand corrected on this if anyone knows different). So if the barges were run early enough on either of these matchdays, everybody would have plenty of time to stroll across to the Vine before the match, and make a day of it.
If you think this is a worthwhile idea, please post and let me know. I'd be happy to write a letter to the club and help organise/promote the event if they are agreeable, but I'd also be happy to hand the idea over to someone who knew Rich better than I did, or is in a better position to deal with the club. Any ideas please?

Feel quite sad that nobody has replied to this thread, even just to opine that it isn't an appropriate idea or whatever.
Surely it's worth a moment's thought.

Very good idea mondial - We could even call in at "the Blue Pub" ( Rich's least favourite ) to abuse the landlord on the way from the docking point to the Vine. Rich would approve !
If it goes ahead count me in

I think the best way forward is that before we start to think about doing something in the public domain we should get some feedback from Rich's wife/family as they may not wish for anything to be done (as did Samba's family as I recall)

Some sort of memorial is hugely appropriate. I think we need to be careful not to divide the efforts.

Any ideas please? Speak to Rich_Baggie as he says there is someone at the club who knew Rich68 quite well apparently. That may be the opening needed for perhaps something in the programme and also whether the club will want to go further. I would be surprised if they didn't after all he did with the barges. I didn't know him but it is absolutely awful news.

Mundial, there was an earlier thread on this topic that suggested that collectively we sponsor a player in Rich's name/honour. As Van says it may be an idea to see what his family thinks before proceeding with anything. He had a good friend at the old Rivals site, Stratford Baggie, we appear to have lost him in the loss of Rivals. He would have been the good contact point

mundial - I'm just working my way through the Board after a weekend offline. It looks like there are a few ideas but this strikes me as a very good. Would be nice to raise a glass to Rich in good company.

Would be nice to raise a glass to Rich in good company. Or raise a cup of tea - a tea party on the barge (or on a barge) may be apt. I agree nothing should be done without the family consenting though - their idea of appropriate may be different to ours.
