seems there is 4 generations, any ideas on which one is best?

My son loves his 3rd generation which is about 3 yrs old now.think if its bought new its difficult to get anything other than the layest 4th gen unless buying off ebay.dont think the 4th gen is much better in terms of features but obviously about 100 quid more

Ive just given him my old samsung galaxy s which does everything the touch can about 5 times better,easier and quicker.think hes seeing the light

My kids both have ipods, not sure which generation. The best feature on there for me, is that it has facetime and a camera lens. This means if they and someone else (me usually) are logged into wifi, then you can have a call with them (for free) and see them whilst talking and they me.

The Galaxy is a phone so no good really, from what i can gather he only wants it for music and games so reckon a 3rd gen would be adequate.

Nothing has ever beaten the MKII in my opinion. Will set you back more than an iPod tho. look at the chassis on that!
