Shame Athletics got missed. 4 medals in total so far is a poor return. Thanks to the 3 on Saturday though.

50% to "good causes" and 50% to Camelot as profit.
What a shame he didn't go with Branson's bid which would have sent 100% to good causes.

In fairness injuries to Idowu and Sayers might have put paid to a couple of those and Dai Greene had issues at the start of the year. Not the other countries haven't had their problems as well but you can't really be disappointed with what we've done overall.

The basic rate of tax could now be 15% if that had happened. In yer dreams. The government of the day would find plenty of opportunities to squander any surplus. Just think how many more quangoes we could get for our money. One does afterall have plenty of one's friends from one's alma mater to put on various committees. Or if it is a labour government there's all sorts of minorities who need a watchdog or a committee full of former union officials or former labour activists to ensure that they have access ( never sure what to) and that their human rights are protected. Or we could perhaps give the army a tank that doesn't work in the dust, or the airforce an early warning system that won't actually fly, or the navy an aluminum frigate that goes up like a Bonfire Night sparkler if anyone drops a fag on the deck. Governments are the most efficient method of wasting your money ever invented by man.

In that case why don't we just pay our dues to Branson rather than HMRC? On past experience it would probably take HMRC 12 months to notice.

Actually it's 50% to the prize fund, 28% to good causes, 12% in duty to the Government, 5% in commission to the retailer, 4.5% for operating costs and .5% profit for Camelot. If you want to see how the good causes are broken down its here - www.national-lottery.co.uk/player/p/goodcausesandwinners/wherethemoneygoes.ftl
