Ok, I have my site built, hosting and domain name sorted, but to upload from dreamweaver or filezilla you need to use port 21, which is blocked by my ISP (virgin media) and they want me to pay £6 p/month for a minimum of 6 months to address this, so I told them to get stuffed. What other options do I have to get my site online?

Threaten to cancel your Virgin account. Did they actually admit to blocking it or was this charge for improved technical support? It might be your firewall blocking the port rather than Virgin. Fairly sure I had issues with Filezilla and my firewall when I first started using Filezilla.

It's not my firewall as I have run an exception, and virgin media told me they were blocking it and the charge was for improved technical support, wankers. Am currently tryig to use www.net2ftp.com to upload it all, but just uploading straight from dreamweaver would have been the easiest option.

Could you upload it via File Manager in Cpanel or whatever backend admin you use ? Not ideal , but might get you by.

I bought ultraedit some years back and it has built-in ftp support which works really well. I just ftp all my website stuff using this. I think you can get a free trial version of it still. There also used to be some free ftp software around (smartftp?)
Does that help at all?

What other options do I have to get my site online? Midge, who are you using as a hosting provider? They may offer more ports which are open on their side which Virgin aren't blocking. I'd be looking at port 22 for SCP for example. (Also, FTP doesn't have to run on port 21 btw. See if your provider runs a FTP server on something other than port 21?)

Cheers KG, they seemed reluctant to give me that information (123-reg), but I think I may be in business now after using net2ftp.com. Will keep you posted...
