Do you think we're looking for a lone striker to replace Odemwingie or for someone to accompany him upfront?
I don't see Carew doing much for us in the lone striker role. He doesn't have the work rate to chase much and if we simply lump it up to him who is he winning flick-ons for?
I think we should be looking to get someone to play either infront or just off Odemwingie as opposed to replacing him. If we're serious about staying up this time why not push the boat out a little and look at someone like Tuncay?
It'd mean ditching our 5 man midfield but does playing Dorrans and Morrison in the same midfield offer much anyway?

Carew is seriously good at holding the ball up and bringing others into play.
If all he had was the capacity to win a few headers then he wouldn't have played for the clubs he has: and he'd probably be called Roman Bednar.

I'd love Carew, he scared our defence to death a couple of seasons ago, but can't see Villa letting him go to a relegation rival.

This so much, just because Villa don't have him holding the ball up and instead seem to want him solely for his aerial ability and presence, isn't his fault. He is as good as Heskey is at that role, with a far, far superior goalscoring ability, hence almost every Villa fan that isn't a happy clapper can't understand how he isn't playing.

By the sounds of it the Carew deal is getting less likey every day with Villa pissing about letting him go or not, i assume Heskey has another 2 games of suspension left? I hope were still looking at other possibilties.
I like tuncay or a player of that mould but somone like Carew gives us the Plan B Tuncay wouldnt, he could play in the lone role or play 4-4-2, maybe RDM would play it if Pete had a big man next to him. would als help scoring and defending set pieces.
Knowing our luck he will be played as a last option vs blouse and score 3

this isnt right, if we was to be sold then the red card for the non-goal scoring ENLGAND INTERNATIONAL goal scorer wouldnt make a differance - injury yes, 3 games no.

Well its their supposed reason, doubt it myself, most probably waiting to see if Houllier stays, if he goes, why would Carew then leave

Well its their supposed reason, doubt it myself, most probably waiting to see if Houllier stays, if he goes, why would Carew then leave Yeah there must be a good reason for the hold up though, booked in for a medical last week and got cancelled after the vile game, either to do with the red card or the fact Houllier is standing dangerously close to the dole queue. I just hope it gets sewn up soon

Was all cancelled/on hold minutes after the Heskey sending off. Carew wants to come! It will be taken out of G.H's hands now though as I dont think he had him in the FA CUP squad. It will be now down to the financial package which I believe is agreed and whether the powers that be above GH sanction it....thats the key to it all. If GH included him in the weekend squad then that would have muddied the waters significantly. Now clearly AV have a player the manager doesnt want even in a crisis so good for all concerned he's got rid of...........fingers crossed! I have a feeling w'em gonna get him this week! Yeah there must be a good reason for the hold up though, booked in for a medical last week and got cancelled after the vile game, either to do with the red card or the fact Houllier is standing dangerously close to the dole queue. To be fair to the Albion and powers that be.....we'd done a good job on this one! It was just so unfortunate to fall through at the last hurdle through not fault of ours. Like I said fingers crossed this week will bring some positive news. Eggs arent all in one basket but Carew is the bloody big egg in ours!! Randy needs to balance the books. That is paramount in the thinking to release Carew as he won't play for Villa under Houllier.
Wages of experienced players bought this summer already dwarf what existed before
